2009 already? WTH? Oh well, might as well get right into it shall we?
So what is happening in the world? Oh yes, President Obama, the hope of the free world rests on your shoulders Mr. President. Not a hefty task after the former president now is it?
We are in the midst of a global recession. I have a few ideas to get things back on track, keep industry going and get everybody working. It is of course a dreamers idea but it takes a visionary to bring them to fruition.
So what is this great idea you ask? It is actually a very old idea. Sir John A. MacDonald had a vision of a railway from sea to sea connecting the country and bringing us together as a people. I suggest one step further, a high speed underground rail transit system for people and goods spanning the continent, North to South. From Hudsons Bay to Rio Gallegos in Argentina and from say St. John's to Vancouver and a parallel line from Bangor to San Francisco.
If it were done as a private public partnership, built by the people for the people I think it would serve the same purpose that Sir John had in mind.
I ask for nothing except to be able to ride for free for my lifetime and a large statue and plaques in every station saying that I was not crazy but a dreamer.
Any takers?

Mother's Day
I managed to give flowers for Mother's Day supporting the industry and wasting money on what will be a bunch of dead flowers in a few days. Oh well, it's the thought that counts.
I have to share that today, Mother's Day 2008 I shat in the woods for the first time in my life. Yes, I know, growing up in NB and this is a first? I have lead a sheltered life my friends. Does this count as a rite of passage? Would it count if you were sweating toxins out of your pores at the time due to over indulgence in rich foods and liquor the previous day? I did not manage to find a good drinking rock but still it was a good hike.
Best wishes to all, I think I shall be back a little more frequently.

Police Speed Limits?
A recent story on cbc.ca told of the tragic death of a young man from Northern N.B. after an apparent high speed police chase. The subsequent inquiry stopped short of recommending that a policy be put in place to limit the maximum speeds that police may use during a chase situation. I am all for public safety and placing a limit on the maximum speeds used seems very sensible to me at first glance.
I have to wonder why cars and motorcycles are being sold in North America that are capable of reaching top speeds of over 200 KM/hr when the highest speed limits are only 110 KM/hr? If we sell vehicles that are capable of those speeds and the police are the only people who are actually trained to drive anywhere near those speeds then why would we put a limit on them? Would it not be wiser to limit the top speeds that these vehicles can attain? Or should we require riders and drivers to pay for specialized training if the want to purchase the high performance vehicles and sign a waiver that they will obey traffic law like the majority of motorists?
Another news story is that a young man was sentenced to one week in jail and 1000$ fine after running into and killing a man while under the influence of alcohol and marijuana. According to the judge the reason for the light sentence was that the victim was wearing dark clothes and was standing on the road and an RCMP expert said that even a sober driver would have struck him. The judge went one step further in saying that the chances of convicting the driver of more serious charges would be difficult if not impossible.
If I was convicted of simple possession of marijuana, not trafficking but simple possession I would serve a hell of a lot more time in jail not to mention the impact to my family and the limited future income potential.
Where are our priorities? If I am operating a vehicle under the influence should I not lose my license? If I am putting the public at risk due to my own choice of reckless behaviour should I not be held accountable? If I wish to self medicate in the comfort of my own home should I not be able to do that without fear of incrimination?
I wish I knew somebody who could explain this in terms that actually made even a little bit of sense.
I am going for a coffee, one of the last legal drugs.

Independant media?
There has been a change in the way our media feeds us our news over the last several years and I have noticed a trend that I find quite disturbing. The day of the independent newsman covering the story and presenting both sides in an impartial manner for the reader or listener to digest is gone. What is left are little more than editorials espousing the view of the owners or which ever political party they are trying to curry favor with.
I guess I shouldn't complain too much, at least I don't have to worry about thinking for myself, I'll just let the media folks do that for me so I can worry about more important things like which reality TV show I want to follow this season or how I can best manage to buy the latest and greatest home electronics to further erode my feeble intellect.
Blessings!

Our Thoughts Create Our Reality
We travel through life with blinders on, placed there by parents, schools, relatives, and society but mostly by ourselves. Science, for the last three decades, has functioned under the concept that travel beyond the speed of light was impossible. Scientists at USC at Berkley have recently proven that travel beyond speeds of 2 or 3 times the speed of light is possible, even commonplace (well for subatomics anyway). This has opened the doors for new experiments that prove space, time and thought are interconnected. Buddhists have said for centuries that our thoughts create our reality, that we are all interconnected through what Carl Jung described as the collective consciousness. The blinders we place on ourselves are a barrier we must learn to eliminate. You are capable of anything you set your mind to. The boundaries between Esoterica and the Scientific are slowly being narrowed to the point where religion and science finally return to their beginning as the tools for growth, discovery and advancement of the human spirit and psyche. With the beginning of the new millennium, we look to the future and we see the hope of a new age free of bigotry, intolerance and the denigration of humankind for the material gain of the few.
Food for thought.

You have probably all heard of the expression "Finding yourself". I have had friends, and myself to a certain extent, that strongly believe that you have to travel in order to find yourself. I have found through personal experience and through words of wisdom from a History-Scholar-friend-of-mine that "If you can't find yourself where you are, you never will". I am here, here I am. Strangely enough it is easier to be introspective when you remove yourself from distractions of family-ie the Parental Guilt Complex.
The message here is that there is no instruction manual for life. The only thing you can do is live your life the best you can and try to learn from your mistakes. It takes a lifetime to do that. Try to pass along a little of what you have learned, but don't get pushy about it! If I could learn from mine I would be one of the most knowledgeable people on this little planet.
Who would have thunk it, a little common sense from Rev Ev!

Revised Ten Commandments
The Ten Commandments were handed down several centuries ago and are generally common sense. However this does not stop people from ignoring them or twisting them for their own purposes. What follows is a list of the “Revised Ten Commandments” courtesy of the Ranting Rev:
10- You shall not covet thy neighbor’s house, car or stereo system nor his token wife or the nor any of his stock portfolio
9- You shall not rat out your neighbor to the Feds or Crime Stoppers, unless you really need the money
8- You shall not steal (D’uh)
7- You shall not commit adultery, even if you are going through your midlife crisis and your wife has denied you relations and your secretary is willing
6- You shall not commit murder, unless the order comes from the Don himself
5- Honor your Father and your Mother until they get really old and no longer make sense because of all the alcohol and anti-depressants
4- Remember to take a day off, relax for Christ’s sake!
3- If you take an oath in his/her name and break it he/she will be really pissed. Marriage and court are included in this one.
2- You shall not worship any idols, your Grandmother’s china, Beanie Babies or your Harley Davidson
1- You shall have no other Gods before him/her, not Elvis, not the Backstreet Boys, not Celine Dion, not Bill Gates and DEFINITELY NOT BRITNEY FUCKING SPEARS!!
Blessings
